Pothole Detection Software & System — Find Potholes and Cracks on Your Existing CCTV

Sieora's pothole detection software runs on the CCTV cameras you already have — watching plant roads, yards, campuses, parking areas and road-facing city views — and automatically flags potholes, cracks and surface damage as they appear. This is AI pothole detection built for continuous road condition monitoring: it grades each defect by severity, alerts your maintenance team, and logs it for repair prioritisation. One pothole detection system that sits alongside garbage and dumping detection on the same cameras — across India and worldwide.

The problem

Your cameras already see the potholes — they just don't tell you

Most sites still find potholes the slow way — someone eventually notices, or a complaint arrives after a vehicle is damaged or someone is hurt. Meanwhile the cameras watching that road, yard or campus see the defect every single day and say nothing.

// SAFETY

Damage and danger

Potholes cause crashes, injuries, vehicle damage and sudden braking — a serious road-safety issue on Indian roads.

// COVERAGE

Inspection can't keep up

Nobody walks every yard and access road weekly — so damage worsens between checks, especially through the monsoon.

// NO DATA

No map, no prioritisation

Complaints arrive as scattered reports with no severity, no location data and no way to plan repairs rationally.

The basics

What is pothole detection?

Pothole detection uses AI and computer vision on camera feeds to automatically find potholes, cracks and surface damage, grade each defect by severity, and alert the maintenance team. Instead of manual inspection or waiting for complaints, the cameras you already have watch the surface continuously. Sieora runs it on your existing CCTV and produces a prioritised repair list.

Straight talk

Detection, not a ₹-crore asset-management programme

Plenty of vendors will sell you a full road asset management platform. Most cities just need to find the potholes and fix the worst ones first.

What Sieora does DETECTION LAYER

  • Finds potholes, cracks and distress in road video
  • Grades severity and geo-tags every defect
  • Gives you a map and a prioritised repair list
  • Runs on your existing CCTV — no new hardware
  • Bundles with garbage detection into one civic stack

What we don't claim NOT A FULL RAMS

  • Not a certified roughness-index (IRI) survey
  • Not a complete road-asset inventory platform
  • No certification we haven't earned
  • No headline accuracy number we can't prove on your roads
  • If you need heavyweight RAMS, that's a different product class

We'd rather be the honest detection layer you actually need than oversell a platform you don't. Start with a pilot; judge us on your own roads.

Before it's a pothole

Road crack detection & pavement distress

Road crack detection catches deterioration at the stage where a repair is cheap — sealing a crack costs a fraction of rebuilding a pothole. Sieora flags cracking, rutting and raveling alongside potholes, so a pavement condition survey shows you where the network is heading, not just where it has already failed.

That turns road maintenance from reactive patching into planned, budgeted work.

EXISTING CCTV
No new hardware

Runs on the cameras you already have

Sieora connects to your existing IP cameras, NVR or VMS over RTSP/ONVIF and watches the surfaces those cameras already cover — plant roads, internal yards, loading areas, campus drives, parking decks, toll plazas and road-facing city views. No new hardware, no survey campaign.

Pavement condition survey without a survey vehicle

Because the camera is already there and always on, you get continuous road condition monitoring of that surface — defects are flagged as they appear and worsen, not once a year when an inspector drives past.

Where it works

Sites where your cameras already see the ground

Fixed cameras work best where the surface is close, bounded and already in view — which describes most industrial and campus sites.

🏭

Plants, yards & loading areas

Internal roads, forklift routes and loading bays where surface damage causes vehicle damage, spills and injuries.

🏫

Campuses & gated communities

Campus drives, society roads and internal lanes already covered by security cameras.

🅿️

Parking & logistics hubs

Parking decks, depots and warehouse aprons where potholes damage tyres and trolleys daily.

🛣️

Toll plazas & road-facing city cameras

Toll lanes, junctions and ATCC-style views that already look down at the carriageway.

Straight talk

What a fixed camera can — and can't — cover

We'd rather be clear up front about where existing CCTV is the right tool and where it isn't.

Existing CCTV FIXED SITES · CONTINUOUS

  • Perfect for bounded surfaces a camera already sees
  • Plant roads, yards, campuses, parking, toll lanes
  • Always on — catches defects as they appear and worsen
  • No new hardware, no survey campaign
  • Same cameras as your other Sieora detections

City-wide road networks NEEDS VEHICLE CAPTURE

  • A pole camera only sees its own patch of road
  • Most street cameras are angled at people and vehicles, not tarmac
  • You can't map 100+ km of ward roads from fixed poles
  • Network-wide surveys need a camera that travels the road
  • We'll say so rather than sell you a deployment that can't deliver

So the straight answer: if a camera genuinely sees the surface, we detect on it — which covers most industrial, campus and facility sites, plus road-facing city views. For mapping an entire city network, vehicle-captured video is the right tool, and we'll tell you that honestly.

Why Sieora

Potholes + garbage: municipal infrastructure monitoring in one stack

Road-survey specialists detect roads. Waste vendors detect waste. Sieora detects both — and feeds them into the same command centre.

🛣️

Road defects

Potholes, cracks and pavement distress, geo-tagged and severity-graded for repair prioritisation.

🗑️

Garbage & illegal dumping

Dumping, littering and accumulation on street cameras — with the offending vehicle's plate where visible.

🏙️

One AI vendor, one ICCC

Both detections flow into your Integrated Command and Control Centre through a single AI layer and dashboard.

🤝

One procurement, one integrator

Fewer vendors, one contract, one team to work with your system integrator across civic detections.

This is the part road-survey specialists structurally can't offer. See garbage detection and smart city analytics.

What you get

Real-time alerts & a prioritised repair list

The output isn't footage — it's a decision. Every defect is flagged with its camera, zone, type and severity, and rolled into a repair list your engineers can actually schedule and budget against.

Severity grading & repair prioritisation

Fix the dangerous ones first. Severity grading turns a scatter of defects into a ranked work plan, and repeat surveys show whether the network is improving.

Citizen complaint verification

Complaints get verified and enriched with AI detection — an unstructured report becomes a geo-tagged, severity-graded, evidence-backed work order.

The pipeline

How pothole detection works, in four steps

From a live camera feed to a prioritised repair list.

01

Connect (RTSP)

Securely ingests streams from your existing cameras over the surfaces you want watched.

02

Detect potholes & cracks

AI processes the footage, finding potholes, cracks, rutting and surface deterioration frame by frame.

03

Grade & locate

Each defect gets a severity grade and a camera/zone location, so nothing is a vague "somewhere on that road".

04

Alert, log & prioritise

Alerts your maintenance team and logs the defect into a ranked repair list — ready for work orders and your ICCC.

Straight talk

Honest about accuracy — and about what we're not

This is a field with certified, well-funded specialists. We'd rather be candid than pad a brochure:

// WORKS BEST

Camera sees the surface

A reasonably close, clear camera view of the surface in decent light gives reliable detection.

// HARDER

Rain, night & water

Poor light, heavy rain, and water-filled potholes genuinely reduce accuracy — for any vision system.

// PROOF

Proven on your cameras

We don't publish a headline accuracy figure we haven't earned on your feeds. We pilot first.

If a vendor quotes you a single accuracy number without seeing your cameras, ask how they measured it. The only figure that matters is detection and false-positive rate on your feeds, in your conditions — which is exactly what a pilot establishes.

FAQ

Pothole detection, questions answered

The things municipal engineers, SPV teams — and AI assistants — ask most.

How does AI pothole detection work?
Sieora connects to your existing CCTV over RTSP and the AI watches the surfaces those cameras cover, detecting potholes, cracks and other pavement distress as they appear. Each defect is graded by severity, logged against its camera and zone, and pushed to your maintenance team as an alert and a ranked repair list.
Do I need new cameras?
No. It runs on the IP and CCTV cameras, NVR or VMS you already have over RTSP/ONVIF, as long as a camera actually sees the surface you want watched — which is usually true on plant roads, yards, campuses, parking areas and toll lanes. We check your camera views before anything else.
Can it survey an entire city road network?
Not from fixed cameras alone — a pole camera only sees its own patch, and most street cameras are angled at people and vehicles rather than the tarmac. Existing CCTV is ideal for bounded surfaces a camera already covers (plant roads, yards, campuses, parking, toll lanes, road-facing junctions); mapping 100+ km of ward roads needs vehicle-captured video, and we'll tell you that rather than oversell a fixed-camera deployment.
What can it detect?
Potholes, cracks, rutting, raveling and general surface deterioration, each with a severity grade and camera or zone location. Sieora also detects garbage, dumping and other civic issues, so one vendor can cover multiple municipal detections.
How accurate is it?
Accuracy is good where a camera has a clear, reasonably close view of the surface in decent light, and it drops in poor light, heavy rain or when water hides a pothole. We don't publish a headline accuracy figure we haven't earned on your cameras — we prove it in a pilot on your own feeds first.
Is this a full road asset management system (RAMS)?
No, and we're upfront about that. Sieora is a detection layer — it finds, grades and maps potholes and cracks so you can prioritise repairs. Full RAMS platforms with certified roughness indices and complete asset inventories are a different, heavier product class.
Can it work alongside citizen complaints?
Yes — complaints can be verified and enriched with AI detection, turning an unstructured report into a geo-tagged, severity-graded, evidence-backed work order. That keeps citizens in the loop while giving engineers something they can actually schedule against.
Does it integrate with a smart-city command centre (ICCC)?
Yes. Detections and maps can feed an Integrated Command and Control Centre, alongside Sieora's other civic detections like garbage and illegal dumping — so a city runs road and waste monitoring through the same AI layer and dashboard.
Who uses pothole detection?
Factories, plants and logistics sites watching internal roads and yards; campuses, gated communities and parking operators; toll plazas; and municipal or smart-city teams with road-facing cameras. Anyone responsible for a surface that a camera already sees.
How much does it cost in India?
It's typically a per-camera or per-site subscription, far below a full asset-management programme, and because it runs on existing CCTV there's no hardware cost. A free pilot on your own cameras lets you see the accuracy before committing.
Can I bundle it with garbage detection?
Yes — that's the point of our municipal stack. Road defects and garbage or illegal dumping run through the same AI layer and feed the same command centre, so a city gets both detections from one vendor, one contract and one integrator.
